What we like:
The Ride Engine harness feels nothing like any harness you have used up to this point. The Armor Shell is a completely hard shell that wraps from where the spreader bar attaches on the sides all the way around your back. It is one molded piece of material that can't collapse under load. It translates any pressure from the hook evenly across the entire surface area of the harness. The load is evenly distributed across the back so there is no point loading or pressure points. There is no slippage of this harness at all. It stays completely locked in and does not ride up even if your spreader bar is too loose. There is a lot of padding so if feels really plush on your back. The foot print of the harness is a lot smaller than that of any other harness on the market too. Crazy that it is a lot narrower top to bottom but it has way more support and comfort than a traditional harnesses.
With the rope spreader bar, this harness is not suited for beginners or anyone that wants to unhook. The rope spreader bar set up creates a very loose feel that will feel unstable for a beginner kiter. Intermediates and advanced riders call it a "free" feeling but beginners want to have the locked in feel of a traditional spreader bar that is not available on this harness. The optional hook spreader bar still slides and will be easier to ride than the stock rope spreader bar.
The manufacturer recommends doubling back the tightening strap to keep it from slipping. We didn't have much trouble with slipping, but when we tired to feed the strap back into the plastic buckle it was pretty hard to do with out a friend.
Why you want the Ride Engine Hex Core harness:
Hard shell harnesses will be the future of harness design. The support and comfort you get is unmatched from anything on the market. Trust us, your back will thank you.
